The United States signaled its desire on February 5 to abolish the terrorist designation of the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen.
This comes even as the practices of the militia prove its terrorist nature beyond all reasonable doubts.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has already started taking measures to abolish the Houthi terrorist designation.
The State Department spokesman said the department had already notified Congress about its intentions to abolish the designation.
The abolishment of the terrorist designation came into effect already on February 9.
The State Department said the move would open the door for the presence of measures to curb the activities of the Houthi militia.
Ending the war
Biden said his administration would move to end the war in Yemen.
He added at the State department that the war had caused a human and a strategic catastrophe in the region.
Biden noted that his administration would end all defense support to the war in Yemen, including weapons sales, in order to prove its resolve for ending the war in Yemen.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has welcomed the decision of the US to eliminate the terrorist designation of the Houthi militia.
It said this move would contribute to delivering aid to millions of Yemenis.
In November last year, the United Nations Secretary General said Yemen was the scene of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
