Farmaajo making Somalia’s problems even worse

Security conditions have deteriorated in Somali capital Mogadishu under President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to the extent that the capital has become a major scene of terrorist operations.

Somali police and army troops were also overtired by involvement in their country’s political crises.

Security is becoming a rare thing in Somalia as the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement steps up its attacks, using the American troop pullout from this eastern African country.

Somali has been suffering political crises and security threats for three decades now. The civil war among the different tribes and groups played a major role in making these crises worse. Regional and international interference in the country’s affairs also played a role.

Farmaajo’s presidential term came to an end last month. The Somali opposition insists that he does not lead the country for a transitional period until new elections are held.

American pullout

The administration of former US President Donald Trump pulled American troops out of Somalia, especially after the interim government of the country showed an ability to control the security situation nationwide.

However, the American pullout was shocking for Somalia’s military. American troops used to play an important role in the fight against terrorism in Somalia. The American army carried out a series of preventive attacks and airstrikes. The US also provided Somalia with intelligence an training for its military since 2014.

Tension

President Farmaajo came short of solving his country’s problems all throughout his rule. This caused the political situation in Somalia to become more complicated, which has had its toll on the security situation in the country.

Tensions between the federal government and the different Somali states also increased. A power struggle erupted between the two sides after the states demanded more autonomy. This was faced with the desire of the federal government to increase its power at the expense of the states.
