More Than 1.3 Million People Vaccinated against COVID-19 In Saudi Arabia

More than 1.3 million people have received the coronavirus vaccine in Saudi Arabia since the Kingdom launched its vaccine campaign in December.

“The number of people who received the COVID-19 vaccine in the Kingdom reached 1,332,740,” Dr. Mohamed Al-Abdulaali, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, announced Sunday.

“There are 405 vaccination centers set up by MOH in various regions of the Kingdom,” the spokesperson said.

Al-Abdulaali noted that 357 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 379,831, including 2,689 active cases receiving necessary medical care.

“There are 505 critical cases, while the health condition of the rest is stable.”

He said that 313 new recoveries have been recorded, bringing the total recoveries to 270,614 cases.

“Also, four new deaths have been reported, bringing the total deaths to 6,528,” he added.

The Saudi authorities called on all Saudis and expats to register for the vaccine through the Sehaty application.

Meanwhile, the interior ministry’s security spokesperson said cinemas, restaurants and cafes, malls, and gyms and sports centers would be reopened this week because more people are respecting preventive measures.

On Feb. 4, the Kingdom had decided to suspend all entertainment activities and events, as well as to close cinemas, restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, gyms and sports centers for 10 days, which was later extended for another 20 days.

Dr. Ahmed Kattan, deputy minister at Saudi Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing said authorities will continue to monitor violations to stop the spread of the virus.
