The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has outperformed 180 countries in two environmental performance indicators, ranking first in both the “Tree Cover Loss” and “Wetland” indices, according to the state-owned Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Moreover, Saudi Arabia outranked 172 countries in preserving and protecting natural environments and preventing the extinction of rare animal species.
It also ranked eighth worldwide in the “Species Habitat Index,” as revealed by the National Center for Performance Measurement (Adaa), which monitors the international indicators.
It is noteworthy that the Kingdom’s achievements coincided with the international community celebrating the “World Environment Day.”
According to Adaa, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA) is making remarkable efforts to protect the environment, producing a significant impact on life, wealth, and the economy.
These efforts also contributed to preserving natural resources and their sustainable development.
The Kingdom also ranked first in the “Wetland” indicator, a true reflection of the Kingdom’s keenness towards maintaining and preserving farmlands.
Outperforming 133 countries, Saudi Arabia ranked 34th worldwide and 1st in the Middle East and North Africa region in the “Forest soils and Site” indicator, which assesses the quality of land, forests, and soil resources and their impact on the quality of life.
For the “Satisfaction with Efforts to Preserve the Environment” indicator, Adaa confirmed that the Kingdom ranked 13th globally, out of 167 countries. The statistic was based on surveys measuring efforts for preserving environmental sustainability.
The Kingdom’s leading standing in these indicators reflects the Saudi leadership’s ongoing support and keenness to raise the quality of life and environmental preservation.
Achieving sustainable environmental security is part of the goals set by the national transformation plan dubbed Kingdom Vision 2030.
Global initiatives mounted by Saudi Arabia, such as the “Saudi Green Initiative” and the “Middle East Green Initiative,” have received worldwide praise.
