The Italian artist is inspired by the Divine Comedy for new works that enrich the world heritage.
He tries to continue Dante’s work by making statues symbolizing the way to the ascent to heaven and the fact of freeing oneself from problems.
With artistic flair, the Italian artist Maurizio Toffoletti attempted to show loyalty to his colleague Dante Alighieri, by organizing a small exhibition revealing the details of his world sculptures and magnificent statues that contributed to the appearance of an artistic line in many arts and creations.
Toffoletti, who belongs to the authentic school of sculpture with Greek and Hellenic roots, an illustrious representative of which is Michelangelo, told the story of Dante, who composed the ensemble known under the name of “Divine Comedy”, seeking to s ‘inspire them by sculpting new statues named “The Heavenly Stairs” to complement what Dante started.
Toffoletti’s sculptures resemble trees and plants in their forms, they are glued to the earth, and inclined in their growth, seeking to climb to the farthest point without defining it.
Toffoletti says about his exhibition: “The Divine Comedy belongs to the world heritage and is a cultural reference for all humanity, and this heritage is linked to man through time and cultures, which makes it a Unique worldwide work of its kind, this Comedy has been a source of inspiration in everything and at all times, and will undoubtedly remain a beacon for humanity and creators, in the field of geniuses of sculpture and works by Michelangelo or Rodin for example are inspired by it.
Toffoletti described his feeling by saying: “Dante can accompany us through his works during our life in all the situations and the states of mind that we go through, and to explain his work, I started to do the studies and the models. on the three statues of Dante, called “The three canticles of Laos – The Divine Comedy”, these statues bear as names: Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.
And he continues: “With these sculptures, I have tried to apply, transmit and explain personal and contemporary thought to Dante’s work, but my efforts are the most perfect continuity of creation and creation. Dante’s imagination, that’s why I imagined and created a fourth set of statues that complement what Dante started, this set is called The Fourth Song, Hope ”.
The first statue, the Purgatory, is the first work of Dante’s trilogy, on the Human Comedy, which recounts the three stages of the journey during which Virgil accompanied him, a and which lasted with him until the end of the stage of Purgatory.
According to Dante’s description, the statue of Purgatory embodies the crater of a volcano in the form of a cone, after the expulsion of Lucifer (the leader of the demons) from Paradise, and his fall to earth, the sculpture represents the nine helix circles of Hell, and embodies the mouth
from the leader of the demons at the entrance to Hell.
As for the statue of Purgatory, it is the second part of Dante’s Divine Comedy, and according to its description, Purgatory looks like the mountain that was made from the crater of the volcano, because of the fall of the chief of the demons (Lucifer) on earth.
By throwing light on these statues, the Italian artist Toffoletti continued Dante’s journey, sculpting new statues representing the heavenly stairs, which is the path of the ascent to heaven and deliverance from problems, crises, challenges, as well as the statues of the way to Paradise and endless love, with this artistic ensemble the Italian artist tries to continue what the brilliant Dante started.
