US sending official delegation to Tunisia, yet another blow to Ennahda’s hopes

Political Islam keeps incurring losses in Tunisia against the backdrop of the July 25 measures taken by Tunisian President Kais Saied.

Saied dissolved the parliament and sacked the cabinet, which dealt a painful blow to the Islamist Ennahda Movement.

The movement, the branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in Tunisia, pinned its hopes on the Americans to intervene to reverse the decisions of President Saied.

To their utter shock, Washington preferred to stand in the middle, but this irked the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The organization used its media platforms in reminding the Americans of the leverage they have on internal affairs in Tunisia and their ability to effect internal changes in the country.

Contrary to the American tendency towards non-interference, Washington showed more inclination towards the Tunisian president’s team.

It sent an official delegation to Tunisia on Friday. The delegation carried a message to the Tunisian president from his American counterpart, Joe Biden.

In his message, Biden said he followed developments in Tunisia closely.

Biden also said that he has respect for Tunisia and its president, according to the Facebook page of the Tunisian Presidency.

The US leader pointed out that the US administration knows the size and quality of the challenges Tunisia is facing, especially the economic and health ones.

US Assistant National Security Adviser and head of the delegation, Jonathan Viner, confirmed that his country is committed to its strategic friendship with Tunisia, supports the democratic process in it, and looks forward to the next steps that Saied would take at the government and political levels.
