Within the framework of the military operation launched by the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen to save the Al-Abdiyyah district of Marib Governorate from the siege of the Houthi, the coalition carried out 40 attacks on the militia, targeting its vehicles and members.
Al-Abdiyyah is experiencing a human tragedy as a result of the Houthi siege that has been in place since September 21, which prompted the legitimate Yemeni government to declare the district a disaster area.
A statement issued by the Marib Health Office said that the terrorist Houthis bombed the only hospital in the district and the children’s food center in the hospital while a number of children and wounded civilians were receiving treatment due to their injuries during the targeting of their homes by the militia.
Tragedy of Al-Abdiyyah
The importance of Marib is due to the fact that the governorate is still resistant to the Iranian-backed Houthis, and despite the militia incurring heavy losses, it continued to target the area’s residents, especially women, children and the elderly.
The siege of Al-Abdiyyah already threatens more than 2,000 children suffering from malnutrition who are in great danger and lack the most basic necessities of life due to the restricted movement.
The Houthis are besieging about 35,000 Yemenis inside Al-Abdiyyah, amid a blackout over abuses against them.
For its part, the Yemeni government launched an online campaign under the hashtag “Al-Abdiyyah Speaks to Humanity” and “The Houthis Besiege Al-Abdiyyah” to break the global silence towards the militia’s practices there.
Yemeni Minister of Culture, Tourism and Information Moammar Al-Eryani said that the militia has committed field executions, liquidated the wounded, bombed houses and government buildings, and looted shops.
Criminal siege
Yemeni human rights researcher Hamdan al-Ali said that Marib’s Al-Abdiyyah district has been under siege for more than a month by the Houthis, and the international community has not fulfilled its duty to work to lift this type of criminal siege.
Ali added in exclusive statements to the Reference that the population of Al-Abdiyyah, which numbers more than 35,000 people, most of whom are women, children and the elderly, are under siege in all respects, and medicine, food and medical supplies such as oxygen have been prevented, which has led to the death of a number of children and the elderly. Above this siege, there was continuous bombardment of houses amid Arab and international silence, although this crime should have been dealt with, as it is targeting civilians.
The Houthis are targeting Marib Governorate not only with political motives, but also with ideological motives, Ali said, adding that they aim to change the beliefs of Yemenis and to cultivate Iranian thought in the country.
