Iranians suffer from dire economic conditions that cast a shadow over all sectors in their country.
These conditions are giving rise to relentless protests across Iran.
The protesters call for improving the living conditions of workers.
However, Iranian authorities meet these calls with complete disregard.
Revolutionary Guard
Despite ignoring the demands of the working class to raise the budget specified for their salaries, the Iranian regime does not hesitate to raise the budget of the Revolutionary Guard Corpse.
The corpse basically controls nearly 70% Iran’s economic institutions. It also controls all resources and manages a large smuggling network that has come to form a parallel economy in the country.
In his first state budget, Iranian President, Ibrahim Raisi, raised the budget of the Revolutionary Guard Corpse by 2.4%, compared to the budget of last year.
The budget of the Revolutionary Guard Corpse for the new fiscal year reached 93 billion Iranian tomans.
Under former president, Hassan Rouhani, the budget of the corpse did not exceed 38.5 billion tomans.
This means that the new Iranian president had raised the same budget by 2.4%.
This raise compounds the advantages enjoyed by the corpse. Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, also has his own budget that comes from the National Trust Fund.
The Iranian state budget also has allocations for the Defense Strengthening Program and Strategic Defense Research. These allocations amount to 4.5 billion Euros.
Significance
Increasing the budget of the Revolutionary Guard Corpse comes in light of the various tensions that Iran is experiencing.
This also comes as tensions between Iran and the international community increase, against the country’s nuclear file.
The tensions are opening the door for fears from a potential military escalation, especially if indirect talks on the nuclear file fail.
