The Russian Defence Ministry has declared a state of maximum alert to protect its army and national security from the threat of drones targeting the Russian interior, especially the Crimean Peninsula.
This is tantamount to a great insult to Russia which has been suffering since the eruption of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
Moscow has not managed to resolve this issue so far due to unlimited Western and American support to Ukraine.
Russian Minister of Defence, Sergei Shoigu, confirmed his country’s intention to complete the modernization of the missile defence system around Moscow as soon as possible to protect it from Ukrainian attacks, especially drone attacks.
Evolution
The past few days have witnessed an announcement by the Russian Ministry of Defence of its success in shooting down an American super-advanced missile of the GLSDB type or smart bomb as described by the US.
This confirms Russia’s serious pursuit to develop its defence system in anticipation of Western attacks with advanced weapons in the coming days.
This is especially true with the approach of the so-called ‘Spring Battle’, and Moscow’s ardent desire to protect government, industrial and military facilities.
Russian embarrassment
For his part, international affairs specialist, Diaa Nouh, confirmed that drone attacks on Russian territories and Crimea have been repeated in recent months, more than a year after the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
He pointed to recent statements by the authorities in Crimea about the success of the Russian navy in repelling a drone attack in the port of Sevastopol.
“The navy also foiled attempts to bomb a facility in the area of the capital Moscow,” Nouh told The Reference.
“This confirms the critical Russian position and the need to work on modernizing Russian defence systems,” he added.
Nouh noted that drone attacks in the Crimean Peninsula raised concern in Russia.
He referred to a Ukrainian decision to attack facilities located in Russian regions, including the Tula province.
“Moscow has become heavily dependent on air defence systems, including the bolh-21 system, which proved its effectiveness in the skies,” Nouh said.
Danger
Nouh said Moscow possesses many air weapons and bombs, as it is still an effective tool for implementing and supporting various combat missions and defensive means that can protect its skies from military harassment and targeting with modern Western weapons, in particular, various radars capable of operating in different ranges of airspace.
He added that Russia’s arms to protect the skies against Ukrainian attacks and the threat of drones are based on a number of important components and weapons in the coming stage.
