Helicopter Incident in Syria Injures 22 U.S. Troops

In a recent incident in northeastern Syria, twenty-two U.S. soldiers sustained injuries due to a helicopter accident, according to military officials. The incident, labeled as a “mishap,” is currently under investigation, with no reports of enemy fire involved.

The Central Command, responsible for overseeing operations in the Middle East, released a brief statement on Twitter confirming the troops’ injuries, which ranged in severity. Ten of the injured soldiers were subsequently evacuated to hospitals outside the region for treatment. Syria is home to a significant number of American troops and contractors, who collaborate with Kurdish fighters to prevent the resurgence of the Islamic State militant group. The group had declared itself a caliphate in 2019 after causing widespread destruction across Iraq and Syria for five years.

This incident follows a previous attack in March, where a U.S. contractor lost their life, and six other Americans were injured during a series of rocket and drone assaults by Iranian-backed militias on coalition bases.
