The head of the Turkish Democratic People’s Party, Selahattin Demirtaş, who is currently detained, criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and called on EU countries to support his country further to develop rights and freedoms.
Demirtaş, accused Turkey’s ruling party and its president, Erdogan, of “stopping the democratic process,” Deutsche Welle reported.
As for the reasons for his arrest more than a year ago, he said in remarks to the German newspaper “Bild”: “because I have angered the ruling Justice and Development Party and its president Erdogan against me.” Demirtaş said the ruling party and its president, Erdogan, had stopped the democratic process in Turkey “to achieve their Islamic project.”
“Turkey is not only made up of the AKP … Millions of citizens have been resolutely fighting for years to become a fully democratic country,” he said.
