Yemeni Army: Huthi mines and booby-trapped boats threaten navigation

The Yemeni army has accused the Houthi militia of planting thousands of mines and booby-trapped boats to target ships and threaten the international shipping line in the Red Sea.

According to a statement issued by the Media Center of the Yemeni Armed Forces, the engineering teams of the National Army extracted more than 5842 mines in the liberated areas, the coastal area of Midi (north-west Yemen), which was land and sea mines and anti-personnel and vehicles.

The Deputy of the Engineering Division of the Fifth Military Region, Lt. Col. Daifallah Saleh, said that 2616 anti-vehicle mines, 2,668 antipersonnel mines, 232 explosive devices, 654 pedal mines and 40 sea mines were destroyed in the Midi front in Hajjah province.

According to the statement, the national army has foiled during the past few days, the planting of dozens of mines and explosives by the militia coup in the shores of Midi, and the statement confirmed the killing of ten experts belonging to the Houthi militias, and captured another element during the operation carried out by the National Army days ago.

The Yemeni army recently announced the implementation of an operation targeted naval vessels on board the experts of mines from the Houthi militia during the process of planting mines near the international shipping line near to the city of Midi.

The army also added burning one of the Houthi boats with three experts and seized the second boat after killing two, were on board and another was captured, while the third boat escaped.

Earlier, al-Houthi’s militias threatened that it would target the international shipping and seek to cultivate sea-mine networks from time to time in the waters of the Red Sea.
