The British judicial authorities have referred, the Qatar’s corruption case with Barclays bank, to the Supreme Court, where an illegal £ 12 billion deal was made during the economic crisis, decade ago, part of which was a loan to Qatar.
A hearing is expected to be held at the South Wark Crown Court on Friday, the Bloomberg newspaper reported Thursday.
Barclays is the sixth defendant in the case, after charges from the British Fraud Office to the bank’s holding company and four former executives, including former chief executive John Farley, all accused of plotting an illegal financial deal.
The charges relate to commissioning of loans and loans from the bank to Qatar, which used investments from Doha to avoid a government bailout of 2.2 billion pounds granted by the bank to Qatar in 2008.
