CAIRO – Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Board and Editor-in-Chief of al-Bawaba News Abdelrahim Ali said Sunday that Egypt had refused to send ground troops to Yemen because of its negative experiences in this Arab state during the rule of late president Gamal Abdel Nasser.
He added at a debate on private TV al-Kahira Wal Nas that Egypt is opposed to the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Assad, he said, needs to stay in power until Syria makes the necessary transition from violence to peace.
He added that Egypt also dealt cautiously with regional hotspots, including Libya, and preferred to back political solutions to crises.
