Syria’s collapse will harm Egypt’s national security, says Ali

CAIRO – Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Board and Editor-in-Chief of al-Bawaba News Abdelrahim Ali said Sunday that Egypt pursues policies that only serve its national interests and security.

The Egyptian administration, he said, is mandated by the people to defend the national security of their country.

He added at a debate with some western journalists on private TV al-Kahir Wal Nas that the presence of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in power is necessary for Syria’s unity.

Assad’s overthrow at present will lead to the collapse of Syria as a state, Ali said.

He said Syria’s collapse will harm Egypt’s national security as well as the national security of other Arab states.
