Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghafar and top officials his ministry and heads of research centers and Egyptian universities on Tuesday mourned novelist Ahmed Khaled Tawfiq who passed away Monday at the age of 55.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the minister offered condolences to the family of the deceased who was a professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University.
Tawfik enriched the cultural life in Egypt and the Arab world with more than 200 paperbacks. He is the first contemporary Arab writer of horror and science fiction and the first Arab writer to explore the medical thriller genre. His famous novels include Utopia, Just Like Icarus and the Supernatural series or (Ma Waraa Al Tabiaa series).
Tawfik died at Ain Shams Hospital in Cairo Monday evening. He died after a long-term illness.(MENA)
