The Arab Coalition in Yemen has managed to achieve a lot of victories since its formation, especially after it managed to encounter Iran’s arms in Yemen, namely the Houthi militias, as it retrieved more than 90% of the land that were under Houthi control.
Forces of the Arab coalition continued its operations that included the Battle of Al Hudaydah, a major Saudi-led coalition assault on the port city of Al Hudaydah in Yemen and is considered as the largest battle since the start of Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen in 2015.
Assaults launched by the coalition allow Yemen to build a national army, as President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi started to form a national army after the liberation of the temporary city of Eden last year by training and merging Popular Resistance fighters into the army and security authorities.
The coalition’s achievements were not only military, as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates dispatched food and medical supplies to the displaced and war-affected people and citizens of liberated cities through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid And Relief Centre and the Red Crescent Society of the United Arab Emirates.
Moreover, the coalition also opened new border crossings and protected civilians, not to mention that it has been encountering Iranian ambitions in the region.
It is pertinent to mention that the success that the coalition managed to pull off in the Yemeni scene has concerned the Iranian regime over the future of Houthis in Yemen. This forced Iran into supplying the Houthis with ballistic missiles to target Saudi Arabia and its civilians, however, the Saudi air defense destroyed the missiles before reaching their targets.
Also, the Iranian-backed General People’s Congress (GPC) has issued a statement demanding the formation of an international committee to probe into the coalition’s operations in Yemen.
Yemeni military expert Yehia Abu Hatem says the GPC decided to take such step after the coalition’s assaults succeeded in the fight against Houthi militias, especially that these militias violated all international norms and did not adhere to UN or human rights organizations decisions.
Hatem told The Reference in an interview that this group receives funds from Qatar and Iran in a desperate move to hinder the progression of the Arab coalition.
“GPC’s statement only represents a minority that is being used by Iran to carry out its schemes in the region and to incite the international community against the Arab coalition,” he added.
