“The Council does not aspire to take over power to run the country,” said General Omar Zine El Abidine, chairman of the political committee of the transitional military council in Sudan.
He added in a press conference in the capital Khartoum that the Sudanese military council would rule for two years and this period may extend, but on condition of ending the chaos.
He added that “we have responded to the desire of the Sudanese people in their demand for the departure of the former regime,” pointing out that “the main task for us is to maintain the security and stability of Sudan and that the next government will be civilian to meet the desire of citizens”.
He stressed that the Sudanese army came to protect the country from attempts to sabotage, and arrange the conditions for the handover of power peacefully.
He pointed out that the leadership of the Council seeks to engage in serious and comprehensive dialogue with all political entities and armed movements to create an atmosphere conducive to democracy. He also refused to accuse the leaders of the Council that they made the National Congress Party (Omar al-Bashir), saying that this talk has no basis. “We are the property of the people,” he said.
