Turkish prison authorities have tortured a prisoner to death, but are claiming that the man was found dead inside the toilet of his prison cell.
Zaki Youssef Hassan, who was previously arrested by Turkish authorities and accused of spying for the United Arab Emirates, was declared dead at 10:22 p.m. on Sunday.
Turkey had apparently decided to open a new front with the member states of the Anti-Terrorism Quartet, after its project for regional hegemony had collapsed like a house of cards.
Turkish authorities had earlier arrested two Palestinian nationals and accused them of spying for the United Arab Emirates.
The prosecution accused Sameh Samieh Shaaban and Zaki Youssef Hassan of obtaining secret information and spying.
The prosecution accused the two Palestinians of having links with Palestinian politician Mohamed Dahlan who lives in the United Arab Emirates.
It claimed that it had evidence that the two men were also involved in the failed coup against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on July 15, 2016.
Turkey then accused the two men of being involved in the murder of Saudi journalist Gamal Khashoggi. Yasin Aktay, an advisor of Erdogan, tried to link all the charges leveled against the two Palestinians with each other.
Nonetheless, Turkey had apparently decided to torture one of the two men to death soon after it had failed to find enough evidence to indict them.
Aktay told the same old story that a plane had taken off from Turkey, carrying those accused of murdering Khashoggi, and headed to Abu Dhabi and then to Cairo.
In doing this, he only wanted to implicate Egypt and the United Arab Emirates in a case Turkey used in blackmailing Saudi Arabia. Istanbul apparently wants to use the same case again in staging a new round of conspiracies against the Arab states that oppose Qatar’s sponsorship of terrorism.
On April 19, a court in Istanbul ordered the jailing of the two Palestinian nationals on charges of spying for the United Arab Emirates.
The official Turkish news agency then reported the death of one of them. It claimed that the man had committed suicide. The agency said he was found dead inside the cell toilet by the prison guard when he entered to offer him food.
