The United Nations has warned that Libya might become a hotbed for extremists.
The UN envoy to Libya has warned the Security Council that fighting around Tripoli poses risks of “descending into a civil war which could lead to the permanent division of the country.
The UN envoy further warned that Libya might again become compatible with the existence of extremists and terrorists.
The Libyan Observer published a secret document from New York to Tripoli warning that the Libyan National Accord Government is recruiting terrorists from the Syrian city of Idlib to fight within its ranks in Tripoli.
On April 4, the Libyan National Army (LNA) commenced Operation Flood of Dignity to liberate Tripoli from militias aligned with the Government of National Accord (GNA).
Libyan affairs specialist Abdel Sattar Heteita said that the process of sending foreign terrorists to Libya under the supervision of Turkey has not stopped since 2011.
“The more the army makes progress in place, the more the Qatari support for terrorists will increase,” he said in a statement to The Reference. “As the army has been approaching Tripoli since last month, Turkey and Qatar have pushed more terrorists from Syria.”
He further said that the GNA has been providing a political cover for terrorists, therefore, it became more aligned with Qatar and Turkey lately.
