Ali asks Mediterranean states to unite in fight against terrorism

(Special to The Reference) – Director of the Center for Middle East Studies in Paris (CEMO) and Member of the Egyptian Parliament, Abdel Rahim Ali, said today the fight against terrorism, preserving the environment and protecting water resources were the most daunting challenges facing Mediterranean states today.

“Mediterranean countries need to cooperate and unite to solve these problems,” Ali said. “They need to back national forces and fight the terrorists, regardless of any political differences between them.”

He added at a seminar organized by CEMO on dialogue between the two banks of the Mediterranean that Mediterranean countries need to set their differences aside and start a serious war against terrorism.

“Silence and using imprecise words to describe things, will but make the situation worse,” Ali said.

He called on countries like Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the US to get together  to be able to solve the problems facing them.

The seminar is held on the sidelines of the Two Mediterranean Banks summit which is held in Marseilles on June 23 and 24.

CEMO takes the opportunity of the summit to open discussion on the issues that cause problems between countries on the two banks of the Mediterranean.

Apart from the Arab-Israeli conflict, which stands behind most of the violence in our world today, the Arab Spring came to wreak disaster on the world and widen the scope of problems in it.
