The opposition People’s Liberation Party of Turkey (PPP) accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of falsifying his university degree, which means that if the forgery is proved, Erdogan’s stay in power is against the constitution.
The party demanded the Supreme Electoral Commission of Turkey to cancel the presidential inauguration and to drop his presidency for not conforming to the conditions of the election. It said that the falsification of educational certificates provided to the Foundation has been proved. Therefore, the party has decided to transfer the file of investigation in the validity of the certificate of graduation from University of Marmara to the European Court of Human Rights.
The People’s Liberation Movement had previously reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Ankara about the same incident. However, with the lack of action by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, fearing Erdogan’s retaliation, the party decided to transfer the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
For its part, the Supreme Elections Committee rejected the request of the party by consensus of its members, as the Supreme Elections Commission said that the decisions are final and useful in a way that there is no room for a new resolution, in view of the issuance of a decision in this regard on May 23.
The party pointed out that Erdogan does not have a graduation certificate, and that photocopies presented in the presidential elections are different from each other.
