Director of the Center for Middle East Studies in Paris (CEMO) and Member of the Egyptian Parliament, Abdel Rahim Ali reveals the terrorist organizations’ strategy to spread in the world, which relies on soft areas and exploit security loopholes.
In CEMO monthly breakfast seminar today August 24, at its headquarters in the French capital, on attempts by the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood to use human rights to serve its political interests and incite Western media, using the same issue as a pretext, to destabilize states and implement its terrorist agenda, Ali added that terrorists always use the weaknesses of central states and political and security unrest in controlling territories and planning attacks in other areas. Iraq and Libya are clear examples in this regard.
Sorry to say, when what came to be called the “Arab Spring” started, Europeans were enthusiastic to it.
We said then that the so-called Arab spring aimed to open the door for unrest that turns into a fertile soil for the growth of terrorist groups and the control over power by Islamists who will be more capable of spreading their hate-filled and racist ideology.
We asked them to be cautious in assessing this phenomenon. They were, however, influenced by the views of some Western writers who viewed the political forces leading the Arab Spring as “freedom fighters”.
The emergence of the Islamic State group was a direct result of the Arab Spring. It infiltrated the Arab region and then started targeting Europe, which caused untold damage.
The seminar coincides with the G7 summit which will be held in Biarritz, on the southwestern French Basque coast between August 24 and 26. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will attend the summit.
The seminar is attended by Mariam Benrand, a political violence specialist at the Arab and Islamic World Research and Studies Institute of the French Ministry of Higher Education. Benrand is also an advisor of the International Development Agency.
Renowned Middle Eastern affairs specialist Roland Lombardi is also among the speakers in addition to renowned researcher Joachim Veliocas. The seminar is presented by Dr. Ahmed Youssef, Executive Director of CEMO.
