Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in New York on Sunday (September 22nd) as part of a several-day visit to participate in the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the Turkish Anatolia Agency, Erdogan met representatives of the Muslim community in the United States, explaining that the meeting was about a dinner at the Hilton Hotel, away from the media.
The New York Post published a report titled “Why the Media Does Not Address Erdogan’s Government’s Relations with ISIS?”
Erdogan landed at the charming Peninsula Hotel in New York this week and will host US Muslim leaders for dining on the sidelines of UN meetings, the paper said.
During the Turkish president’s visit to New York in 2017, then-new MP Ilhan Omar met with Democrat of Minnesota. In July 2019, heads of state-run Turkish media called on Turks around the world to donate to the campaign.
The New York Post added that the thing that should bother Americans more about Erdogan is his commitment to “global jihad,” as the newspaper put it, namely ISIS terrorists, not “his efforts to influence Congress, nor his shameful record as a jailer for journalists, nor the war of genocide.”
According to the American newspaper, the Turkish intelligence service, under the supervision of Erdogan since 2012, provided resources and material assistance to IS while Turkish customs officials turned a blind eye to the recruits of the organization flowing across the border to Syria and Iraq.
He pointed out that Turkish exit stamps appeared in the passports of dozens of ISIS fighters captured by Kurdish forces which is a US ally in northern Syria and they boasted of the direct assistance they received from the Turkish authorities.
The newspaper added that one of the ISIS fighters who were arrested, told his Kurdish families recently that the Turkish intelligence knows everything.
Many of the group’s former fighters have now joined forces backed by Turkey, which occupied the Syrian Kurdish city of Afrin, stressing that they participated in the genocide.
Two Turkish intelligence officers (captured by Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq in 2017) provided accounts of Ankara’s assistance to ISIS and other terrorist groups operating in Syria and Iraq.
Erdogan’s family support for ISIS
The New York Post says Turkey’s assistance to ISIS begins directly from the top of the pyramid of power, explaining that in 2016, Wikileaks published an archive of 58,000 e-mails documenting Erdogan’s son-in-law Berat al-Buraq’s help the organization market stolen oil from Syria and Iraq, noting that until the messages were published, the latter denied any involvement in this illegal oil trade.
Sumaya Erdogan, the daughter of the Turkish president, is said to have established a full medical body, including a hospital for treating wounded ISIS fighters in a city in southeast Turkey near the Syrian border, adding that the organization evacuated wounded fighters across the border into the city, in Turkish army trucks, without customs inspection.
The paper stressed that the evidence of the Turkish president’s direct, personal and institutional support for the Islamic State and its associated terrorist groups are many, wondering: “Why the American media does not care more about this ?!” especially since a new group called “Turkey and ISIS Research Project” sponsored this week bus billboards to display across New York.
According to the New York Post, the message was clear: “Erdogan, the spiritual father of terrorists, is not welcome in the United States.”
