Sudan’s Transitional Military Council has started an all-out campaign in order to uproot the Muslim Brotherhood.
Council head, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued a decision to disband the Army Support Charity Authority, the most important Muslim Brotherhood arm inside the Sudanese military.
The chairman of Zadna, the largest company owned by the authority, Ahmed al-Shayqi succeeded in fleeing Sudan.
Al-Burhan also ordered all the assets of the authority be channeled to the social insurance fund of the army.
He also sacked al-Shayqi and appointed another army officer as head of the company which works in the fields of agriculture, animal breeding and food production.
Sudanese media praised al-Burhan’s decision, describing the company as an important Muslim Brotherhood financing source. Media outlets also said that the authority tarnished the reputation of the Sudanese army by caring only about serving the agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The authority was founded in the 1990s by then-vice presient al-Zubair Mohamed Saleh. It primarily aimed to provide logistical support to Sudanese army personnel.
Soon, however, the authority turned into an investment entity of the Muslim Brotherhood. The authority was also responsible for the selection of Military College students. This contributed to changing the doctrine of the Sudanese army. Instead of defending Sudan, these students who became army officers later on defended the Muslim Brotherhood and its interests.
Apart from this, al-Burhan pledged to open an investigation into the violence that took place in Sudan during the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Spokesman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council Mohamed al-Falaki Suleiman said there would be investigations on the way the Muslim Brotherhood targeted its victims during the decades of its rule of Sudan.
This is about time, he said, we opened an investigation into the people who were killed in the past three decades.
