A total of 137 members of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army were killed since the beginning of Turkey’s ongoing military operation in northern Syria on Oct. 9, Turkish media said on Nov. 3.
The Turkish media said the number of wounded members at 508. Turkey formed the Syrian National Army in 2012 to realize its military objectives in the Kurdish areas.
Turkey has founded the Syrian National Army to serve its interests in fighting the Kurdish forces on the Syrian ground. However, these armed groups are expected to be of no influence on the back of victories of the Syrian army.
Ankara tried the same approach in Idlib. In May 2018, 11 groups announced the formation of the so-called “National Front for Change”. However, the new entity has had little influence on the scene in Idlib.
Political researcher Mohamed Farag Abul Nour said that all of the Turkish-backed groups in Syria won’t be influential due to the victories of the Syrian army.
“The so-called Syrian National Army is serving the Turkish interests in Syria,” Abul Nour said affirming that the group is completely loyal to Ankara.
Abul Nour told THE REFERENCE that the Turkish policy in Syria has become “exposed” as it backs al-Qaeda and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
