Iran’s mullah regime is trying to ease the impact of the US sanctions with many countries labeling Tehran as a supporter of terrorism in the region. As of part of these attempts, has revealed a peace initiative titled “Initiative of Hormuz Peace Endeavor”.
IRNA news agency said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday that the full text of the Initiative of Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE) which had already been forwarded by Iran’s President Hasan Rouhani has been sent to the members of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The Iranian official added that the measure indicates Iran’s seriousness in preserving the stability and security of the Gulf region.
Commenting on the initiative, researcher Iyad al-Majali, an expert on Iranian affairs, said that Iran is seeking political channels to pressure the United States to lift the economic sanctions.
“Iran also wants to send political messages to its European partners that the US escalation is not justified,” al-Majali told THE REFERENCE.
The researcher said that Iran is using more than one strategy in addressing its crisis with the United States by launching this kind of initiatives.
“Iran’s endeavors are aimed at reaching some rapprochement and prove a change in its hostile attitude towards its neighbors,” he said, citing that Iran has 1,200 km of shores on the Gulf.
