On the first visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan since the start of his military aggression on northern Syria, he traveled to Qatar on Monday, November 25, 2019, to announce from Doha that his country has completed the construction of its new military base in Qatar.
He pointed out that Erdogan from the headquarters of the Turkish-Qatari headquarters in Doha, that the base was built with the latest technology, to meet the needs of Turkish forces operating there, revealing that it will be called Khalid bin Walid.

In August 2019, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet published an article highlighting the Turkish motives for launching a military base in Qatar, explaining that the number of Turkish troops stationed at Tariq bin Ziyad base will increase in the near future.
The article, written by the writer Hind Furat in the Turkish newspaper, highlighted Ankara’s relentless attempts to extend its influence; by strengthening the political, security and military structure at the regional and international level.
The writer stressed that the importance of the new military base goes beyond the idea of bilateral relations between the two countries sponsoring terrorism, especially in matters of oil and energy, as well as ignite more problems in the Gulf region.
She explained that the new military base includes a number of social facilities, in addition to the increase in the number of soldiers; to maintain Turkey’s interests and security in the Arabian Gulf.
It is noteworthy that in December 2014, an agreement was signed between Qatar and Turkey, providing for the establishment of its first military base in the Gulf.
Turkish media attacks Tamim
“Turkey’s Erdogan’s visit to Qatar is not unusual at this particular time, especially in light of many regional and international variables,” said Turkey’s analyst Mohamed Rabi el-Dehi.
He told The Reference that Erdogan lifted his hand from the Turkish media; to attack the Tamim regime; to pressure him, pay some money and save the Turkish economy from its crisis.
The Turkish-Qatari analyst pointed out that Turkish-Qatari relations are strong and difficult to change or weaken, to meet the interests between the two regimes. Both seek to break up Arab countries and support the radical Islamic currents in the region.
He stressed that the timing of the visit is important in light of talk about the possibility of a breakthrough in the Qatari crisis, and the existence of reconciliation with Qatar.
