Faisal Mohamed Saleh, Sudan’s minister of information, has announced that the Sudanese Cabinet is to issue a set of new laws, including a draft law to dismantle the “rescue system” that has been ruling the country over the past three decades.
Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir has been forced out by the military after 30 years of autocratic rule in a dramatic army-led takeover prompted by months of anti-government protests.
The law stipulated the formation of a committee called the Committee for the dismantling of the rescue system, including 13 members, who will also approve amendments to certain laws.
It provides for the abolition of restrictive articles from the law in the country, and amendments to the criminal code, unions, national security, traffic, passports and immigration laws as well.
Sudan began on August 21, a transitional period, lasting 39 months, ending with elections and the sharing of power both the junta and the forces of change that led the popular protests.
This is the first decision on the path to correct the track in Sudan after nearly three decades, during which Bashir succeeded in building a wide and complex network of links with militant groups, including the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood and external relations with countries.
The decision comes days after authorities arrested Secretary General of the People’s Congress Party, Ali Al-Haj.
African affairs researcher Mohamed Ezz ed-Din told The Reference in an interview that the draft law is a big opportunity to eradicate the Muslim Brotherhood system and Islamist parties in Sudan.
He further pointed out that the Muslim Brotherhood have been controlling the .state and civil society organizations for years.
