Germany has announced financial support to Sudan, in addition to assistance in the technical education field for the people of Khartoum, and this step is a new way for Sudan to get rid of the Qatari control that seeks to swallow the country to achieve its ambitions.
The German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller has announced that Germany is willing to support the Sudanese transitional government.
He also affirmed that his ministry will support Sudan with an estimated budget of €80 million in the field of energy and infrastructure.
During a meeting with Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok in Khartoum on Thursday, Bundestag member Müller affirmed that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will be visiting Khartoum in two weeks and will announce the German aid to the Sudanese transitional government.
In a statement after his meeting Müller, Hamdok praised the readiness and willingness of the German government to support Sudan. He expressed his aspiration to enhance the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Minister Müller also paid a visit to a vocational training centre for power plants established in Sudan by the German technology company Siemens, pointing out that Berlin will support Sudan’s return to being Africa’s food basket and in the technical education field.
The Sudanese Minister of Finance has deemed the visit of the German Minister to be very important, given that Germany was one of the countries that supported the Sudanese revolution, and will further support the ongoing partnership between Sudan and Germany, in a number of projects undertaken by the German government and the German private sector, especially in the field of energy and infrastructure projects.
At his meeting with the German Minister, minister Ibrahim Al-Badawi announced that the government had established the Investment and Private Sector Development Authority, praising Germany’s position supporting Sudan, pointing out that Sudan is looking for the German economic and technical cooperation, especially in the field of technical education that contributes to the provision of jobs, support infrastructure projects and energy to stabilize the macro economy.
The German move comes in light of European interest in investing in Sudan and helping the country’s economy recover at the time that certain international powers do not want Sudan to develop despite its numerous resources, according to observers.
The government of Sudan also intends to attract investments from COMESA countries, according to what the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Asma Mohamed Abdalla, said about her country’s willingness to cooperate so that COMESA can play a greater role regionally, noting the huge investment opportunities in Sudan.
For its part, the COMESA has announced that Egypt will host the next summit of the organization, stressing the importance of Sudan signing the Freedom of Movement Protocol between member states, and the need for member states to pay their contributions as well.
