UAE evacuates Chinese students from China

Efforts by the United Arab Emirates to curb the spread of the new coronavirus have received applause across the Arab region.

On March 4, the UAE succeeded in evacuating a group of Sudanese students from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus.

The Sudanese students praised the UAE for helping them leave the Chinese city, especially after their country’s government faced difficulty evacuating them. They praised the efforts made in this regard by UAE Crown Prince, Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahayan.

“The work done by the UAE was beyond imagination,” said Ahmed Fath al-Alem, a Sudanese doctoral student at the Technology Department of Wuhan University. “We have been warmly welcomed by UAE authorities from the first moment,” al-Alem, 34, added.

He said he did not expect such a warm welcomed, given the dangerous nature of the disease.

Al-Alem noted that this was the first time he came in touch with Emiratis.

“I am so grateful to the government of the UAE which saved us,” al-Alem said.

The evacuation of the Sudanese students also received applause on social media sites where users thanked the UAE for this human gesture.

The same users launched a new hashtag called “Thank you, Mohamed bin Zayed”. They used the new hastag to heap praise on the UAE crown prince and his efforts for helping the Sudanese students leave the Chinese city.

The same social media users considered efforts by the UAE in this regard to be normal, given the Arab country’s great humanitarian record.

The UAE evacuated the Sudanese students from Wuhan to Abu Dhabi, as part of its assistance to the transitional government in Sudan.

City of humanity

UAE authorities have equipped the Humanity City with all medical tools to carry out tests for people evacuated from China. These people are due to spend 14 days at the city’s quarantine unit. During these 14 days, they will receive medical care in the light of World Health Organization Standards.
