The battles that took place in northern Syria in 2019 and early this year cast a shadow over the terrorist groups there. Turkey has realized the weakness of these terrorist groups on the back of victories of the Syrian army in freeing many villages in northern Syria.
Ankara is now baffled as some groups exist only on paper without any effect on the ground.
Therefore, Turkey is seeking to set up a new military entity to rearrange the terrorist groups in Syria with the help of a trusted man. To this end, Turkey has selected Syrian army defector, Brigadier Zaher al-Saket.
There is no information about al-Saket prior to his defection from the Syrian army in 2013. He was born in Aleppo, and was the head of the chemistry department in the 5th division of the Syrian army.
In the wake of internal conflicts, the terrorist factions attacked the new group as some people spread news that al-Saket would send a military group to Libya, while others claimed he protect the Turkish military checkpoints as an alternative to the Syrian National Army, which was formed by Turkey earlier.
Al-Saket said whoever promoted such news are negatively impacted by the new entity, stressing that his new group would emulate the Syrian National Army, which wouldn’t be disbanded.
Al-Saket is at odds with most of the terrorist groups in northern Syria, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. Al-Saket said he had information Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the United States have a political agreement.
However, he suggested that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham would be disbanded as factions have split from it.
