Latest talks between Speaker of the Libyan House of Deputies, Aguila Saleh, on one hand, and a number of Italian officials, on the other, focused on finding a political settlement to the conflict in Libya, a House of Deputies official said Tuesday.
Hamid al-Safi, a media advisor to the House of Deputies, warned against ongoing advances by militias affiliated to the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) towards the northern Libyan city of Sirte and the central city of al-Jufra.
These militias pose danger to the security of both Egypt and Libya, al-Safi said.
He added that the Libyan National Army (LNA) would not allow the same militias to approach the two cities.
LNA Spokesman Ahmed al-Mesmari revealed earlier today that GNA militias are building military power around the two cities, expecting battles to erupted soon.
The House of Deputies asked Egypt late on Monday to militarily intervene in Libya to protect its own national security and Libya’s national security against the GNA militias and the mercenaries sent to Libya by Turkey.
The Egyptian Armed Forces have the right to militarily intervene in Libya if they deem this necessary for the protection of Egyptian national security, the House of Deputies said in a statement.
