Amira Sherif
Nine years after his disappearance, the commander of the Qatari special forces, Hamad bin Abdullah bin Fattis al-Mari, appeared again in Libya to wreak havoc on the country again, which has sparked widespread controversy among the Libyans who knew him through his participation in the fighting alongside the militias and the terrorist Brotherhood after the overthrow of late Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.
Mari appeared in military clothes during the meeting between the Qatari and Turkish defense ministers, Khaled Al-Attiyah and Khulusi Akar, and Brotherhood leader Khaled al-Mishri, head of the unconstitutional State Council, at the Mahary Hotel with other leaders.
Mari has a long history of supporting coups and extremists in the region. He is considered the military arm supporting terrorist militias in Arab territories with money and weapons, until he came at the top of the lists of terrorism and is wanted internationally.
Activists on social media circulated pictures of Mari, denouncing his resumption of Doha’s spread of terrorism in Libya, after he oversaw the spread of destruction and killing in the country since 2011, gaining the nickname “The Butcher of Qatar”.
The Qatari officer was chosen by Doha to contribute to the overthrow of its former ally, Gaddafi, under the pretext of supporting the Libyan revolutionaries against his regime in 2011.
Mari worked with Abdelhakim Belhaj to establish the Libyan Revolutionaries Brigade, which raised terror with its violence and ruthlessness in Libya.
Activists circulated videos and photos of Mari carrying weapons and raising the flag of Qatar at Bab Al-Azizia, Gaddafi’s former headquarters, and others during his leadership of a military force that reopened the Qatari embassy in Tripoli.
Mari was placed on the terror lists for Arab countries after supporting terrorism in many other countries, especially the terrorist Houthi militia in Yemen, and causing the killing of soldiers from the Arab coalition forces during Qatar’s membership before its withdrawal.
Mari was also designated a terrorist in Tunisia after he was accused of financing sabotage operations by opening suspicious bank accounts since 2017, and he was placed on the lists of those banned from entering Tunisian territory due to his history of supporting terrorism.
Observers believe that Mari’s return to Libya is an attempt to complete the Qatar’s goal of chaos and sabotage that began after the Arab Spring revolutions in 2011 through the Turkish-Qatari alliance trying to divide the country’s wealth.
