The UAE has denied reports published by some Israeli media outlets, saying that the UAE and Israel had signed a memorandum of understanding on internal security, as part of the peace treaty between the two countries.
Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi, director of the international security cooperation department at the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation, emphasized that the main goal is to establish economic and scientific relations in the fields of technology, artificial intelligence, health, and education, and “this is not within the framework of seeking security agreements.”
Reports circulated by some media outlets claimed that contacts had been opened at the ministerial level between the two countries to conclude a security agreement shortly.
Zaabi called for accuracy, objectivity, and taking facts from reliable sources, stressing that these reports are completely inaccurate.
Israeli outlets revealed that the first agreements to be inked between UAE and Israel will be related to ‘exchanging expertise in internal security’. Sources from Israel Weapon Industries mentioned that the army in UAE is interested in having access to Israel’s cannons to shoot down drones.
The peace deal was agreed to by Israel and the UAE on August 13, following an accord among US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed Bin Zayed.
“Opening direct ties between two of the Middle East’s most dynamic societies and advanced economies will transform the region by spurring economic growth, enhancing technological innovation, and forging closer people-to-people relations,” the leaders say.
