Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the provocations of his regime towards neighboring countries regarding gas exploration in the Mediterranean without regard to the agreements of those countries.
France and Italy called for the deployment of military forces in the Mediterranean, to participate in exercises with Greece and Cyprus, and in preparation for any Turkish adventure, Where Paris and Rome affirmed that the “Mediterranean” is a common property and not a playground for the ambitions of fools.
Turkish-European confrontations became the most prominent of the difficult possibilities with Ankara continuing its provocations, as a European bloc was formed consisting of France, Italy, Greece and Cyprus, The Greek Ministry of Defense also announced that Cyprus, Greece, France and Italy had agreed to deploy a joint presence in the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of the Quartet Cooperation Initiative (SQAD), in response to the Turkish provocations in the Mediterranean.
The first phase of the joint exercises, which was named “Ifnomia”, will focus on air and sea means, in addition to the forces of these four countries in the southeastern Mediterranean, and that these exercises reveal the collective and complete commitment of the four European countries in implementing the law of the sea and the law on the use of international waterways; According to the Greek Ministry of Defense.
French and Italian military forces were deployed in the eastern Mediterranean, to participate in exercises with Greece and Cyprus, as Florence Parly, Minister of the French Armies, announced the deployment of forces for her country there, at a time of heightened tension between Athens and Ankara, due to the gas exploration operations in the region.
Parly stressed that the Mediterranean should not be a playground for the ambitions of fools, “it is a common property”, as respect for international law should be the rule, not the exception, explaining that France will participate in joint exercises through three “Rafale” aircraft, a frigate and a helicopter.
While NATO called on Turkey and Greece to reduce tension and solve the crisis between the two countries on the basis of international law and the spirit of solidarity between the allies, and Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary-General of NATO, expressed his concern about developments in the situation in the eastern Mediterranean region; He said, “We need to reduce the tension and have the two sides sit at the dialogue table.”
On the other hand, the Turkish opposition came out to shock Erdogan in the face by confirming the deterioration of the Turkish economic conditions in recent times, due to Erdogan’s policies, as the Republican People’s Party confirmed that the continued collapse of the lira against the dollar confirms that any indicators of economic improvement are lost in vain.
Since Erdogan announced the discovery of gas, the price of the dollar rose from 7.19 to 7.39 against the lira, meaning our loss of 86 billion pounds, pointing out that Erdogan stated that Turkey would win $ 65 billion due to the discovery of the new gas, but we have lost about $ 7.1 billion so far, or about 11% before it is even extracted.
Not only that, but Turkish newspapers questioned what Erdogan mentioned, and the credibility of the huge gas discovery, pointing to a long history of deception practiced by the “justice and development” system in this file; The Turkish newspaper, Deniz Zirk, revealed that Erdogan had announced fake oil discoveries at least 30 times since 2003, and the purpose was only to circulate these news and promote them as achievements before the various elections.
Meanwhile, the Turkish newspaper, Cumhuriyet, stated that the impending presidential elections are Erdogan’s goal of this misleading declaration, which is not accompanied by realistic evidence.
