On Sunday evening, November 8, 11 people, including six civilians, were killed in a bomb attack on a watchtower west of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Local media quoted security sources as saying that 11 people were killed as a result of the attack in the Radwaniyah area of Baghdad.
The sources said that the attack targeted a security tower for the army and the Sahwa forces (formed by Iraqi tribes to fight ISIS) in Radwaniyah.
The final death toll included five deaths from the Sahwa council and six civilians.
There was no comment from the Iraqi government about the attack, and no party claimed responsibility, but the finger of blame usually points to ISIS.
Since Iraq declared the end of ISIS three years ago, security operations have continued to pursue the remnants of the terrorist organization, who from time to time launch terrorist attacks in the country.
On Sunday evening, the Iraqi authorities launched a massive offensive to get rid of ISIS hideouts, strongholds and weapons in western Iraq.
According to Sputnik, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said that, as a continuation of pre-emptive operations against ISIS remnants, and in coordination with the Intelligence Department of the Al-Jazeera Operations Command, the Iraqi forces were able to find a mass storage of ammunition, explosives and rockets in Al-Roumieh village, Al-Qaim district.
The Iraqi security forces continue to pursue ISIS remnants throughout the country to ensure that the organization and its fleeing elements do not reappear again. The Iraqi forces achieved qualitative results of a large security operation that they launched on Sunday to pursue ISIS remnants in a mountain range in northern Iraq.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell announced that the Federal Police Forces and the Rapid Response Forces launched an operation to clear and inspect the Makhoul mountain range in northern Salahuddin province in the north of the country, and they managed to find two tunnels and 14 explosive devices.
The spokesman for the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji, also announced the launch of large-scale security operations to pursue ISIS remnants in Salahuddin.
He pointed out that the operations were launched in the Khanuka and Makhoul mountain ranges with the aim of chasing and pursuing ISIS terrorists, noting that the operation is a new method used by the Joint Operations Command.
In the same context, Lieutenant-General Abdul Amir Kamel Al-Shammari, deputy commander of Joint Operations in Iraq, announced that the operation came under the direction of the Iraqi prime minister and under the supervision of the Joint Operations Command.
The deputy commander added that the operation will continue for several days, noting that more details will be announced later.
