Xiamen [China] – Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he would accept President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s invitation to visit Egypt to attend the ceremony of installing the foundation stone of the Dabaa power plant, which is mostly funded by Russians.
Back in February 2016, Egypt and Russia signed a bilateral agreement for the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear plant.
Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in a press conference held at the sidelines of BRICS summit that Cairo-Moscow flights will fully resume, according to Sputnik News Agency.
Flights between Egypt and Russia were suspended following the crash of the Russian plane in the Sinai Peninsula on October 31, 2015, leaving 224 passengers killed. After the airplane crash other countries have suspended their flights to Egypt, but resumed them later.
Putin further said that he wishes that Egypt could efficiently manage to address the problems of “aviation security,” adding that Moscow attends to Egypt’s efforts in this regard.
On Monday, President Sisi and Putin met on the sidelines of the 9th BRICS summit on Monday.
The two leaders discussed boosting bilateral cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
