Conspiracies by the Muslim Brotherhood are sabotaging the initial euphoria that met negotiations by Libya’s rivals in Tunisia over ending the conflict in the North African state and starting a transitional period for 18 months.
The Brotherhood succeeded in imposing an article in the agreement produced by the negotiations. The new article does away with talks between Libya’s rivals in Geneva and opens the door for the return of the civil war in the country.
The same conspiracy, observers said, only serve the best interests of Turkey which seeks to foil political and military talks between the Libyans.
The same observers point to some Libyan figures, including the former mufti al-Sadek al-Gheriani, and say they play an important role in preventing the Libyans from reaching a deal that leads to calm in their country.
According to the Libyan site, al-Marsad, representatives of the Brotherhood insisted to include an article in the agreement produced by the Tunisia meetings that prevents transitional authorities from revising any agreements signed by the Government of National Accord in Tripoli in the past period.
This article aims to prevent the transitional authorities from revising agreements signed by the government with Turkey, al-Marsad said.
Some experts said, meanwhile, that al-Gheriani acquires his influence from the terrorist militias that back him.
These militias, they said, are made up of al-Qaeda and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria militants, in additional to what is known as the Ansar al-Sharia.
“The sacked mufti is a hindrance on the road of reaching an agreement in Libya,” Rida Shaaban, a specialist in Libyan affairs, told The Reference.
