The United Kingdom considers the designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corpse as a “terrorist organization”, following in the footsteps of the United States.
If made, the British designation will tighten the international noose around the most important military and ideological institution in Iran.
The Foreign Affairs Committee in the British parliament said the Iranian Revolutionary Guard supports terrorist groups and militias to destabilize the region.
The terrorist designation, the committee said, is a logical development of the sanctions imposed by the European Union on a group of guard officials.
The committee will possibly submit a bill I the coming days to designate the Revolutionary Guard Corpse as a terrorist organization, according to the Iranian news site Iran International.
It said it had reached measures to be applied to the corpse that move hand in hand with the British terrorism law of 2000.
The committee views the activities of the corpse as harming the interests of the UK.
The committee advised the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office to cooperate with the Home Department in studying available information about the corpse and submitting results to the parliament.
It said this would precede the designation of the corpse as a terrorist organization.
The United States and Europe are now increasing focusing on the corpse and its activities in the region, including in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
In reaction, Iran included the United States Central Command in a national list of terror groups.
