Egypt Kicks Off Preparations to Bring Home Citizens Stranded Abroad

The Egyptian government began Friday preparations to bring home nationals stranded abroad by travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Egyptian Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram said the ministry reactivated its operations room to receive requests from Egyptians in the UAE and Oman.

The Ministry received requests by some nationals asking to return home since they cannot afford accommodation costs abroad.

She added that once the requests are viewed, there will be coordination with the Tourism Ministry to discuss returning citizens through a number of tourism companies.

Makram said the ministry will also facilitate PCR tests required for entering Egypt, in light of the current difficult circumstances.

According to Egyptian flight regulations, all travelers to Egypt are required to complete a monitoring card and provide proof of health insurance to authorities upon arrival, in addition to a negative PCR test.

Egypt registered 532 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 168,057, the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced.

Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahed also reported 52 deaths over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 9,512.
