Ismailia [Egypt] – As many as 63 ships transited the Suez Canal on Wednesday, with a total cargo of 3.9 million tons, said the canal’s authority chief Mohab Mamish.
The south-bound convoy included 33 vessels carrying 1.9 million tons, said Mamish in a press release.
The north-bound convoy comprised 30 ships laden with about 2 million tons, he said.
The rise in transiting ships show a recovery in the world trade, he noted.
The canal’s revenues in the second quarter (Q2) of 2017 recorded $2.105 billion, increasing by $62.2 million, compared to the corresponding quarter.
A total number of 7,294 ships passed through the canal in Q2 2017, compared to 7,021 ships in Q2 2016, with a 3.9 percent increase, according to official data.
Meanwhile, Suez Canal’s revenues in the first half (H1) of 2017 registered $2.938 billion, up from $2.919 billion, Mamesh said in previous statements. More than 9,900 ships crossed the canal during that period, compared to 9,745 ships in H1 2016.
