Cairo – After the overthrow of MB group and the failure of Rabaa al-Adawiya Mosque and al-Nahda Square sit-ins, staged by pro-MB group protesters, MB leaders had no options but to resort to Qatar and Turkey. Both countries welcomed MB members, where they had safe shelters after being involved in violence and terrorism cases in Egypt. MB members stayed in these two countries to practice their criminal activities and instigate against the Egyptian state through Qatari and Turkish media outlets or conferences and seminars organized by the leaders of the MB Global Organization in a number of European countries.
The most prominent MB fugitives in Qatar, and sometimes move to Turkey, are topped by Islamic scholars Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Esam Talima and Wagdy Ghoneim, leading figure Gamal abdel Sattar, former MP Mohammed Gamal Heshmat, MB Freedom and Justice Party’s youth secretary Ali Khafaji, leading figure Ayman Abdul-Ghani and spokesman for “Judges for Egypt” movement Waleed Sharabi. The MB fugitives also include Tarek al-Zomor, secretary-general of al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya’s (Islamic group) non-political wing Building and Development Party, Assem Abdul Majed, a leading figure of the Islamic group, Ahmed Mansour, a presenter at Al-Jazeera channel, former MP Mamdouh Ismail and Salafi leading figures Mohamed Abdel Maqsood and Mohamed Fathy Mohamed Badr.
Abdul Majed and Abdel Maqsood are among the most dangerous MB fugitives, as they both were sentenced to death, in absentia, by Egyptian criminal courts.
Egyptian Journalist and Member of Parliament, Dr. Abdel Rehim Ali is an expert on Islamist Movements and political Islam. This essay is adapted from his upcoming book “Qatar: The Destabilizer of the Middle East: The Full Story of Grand Conspiracy,” which will be published later this month.
