CAIRO – Al Jazeera former Cairo bureau chief Mohammed Fahmy revealed in Qatar’s Opposition Conference on Thursday that the agenda of the executive director of Al Jazeera channel, who is the cousin of Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani,is reflected in the channel’s media content.
Fahmy added that during his trial in Egypt there was an operations room in Al Jazeera channel. The lawyer who was defendinghim and his colleagues in the Marriott case received a letter asking him to represent a defendant who is an official in the Muslim Brotherhood. He went on to claim there is aterrorist who escaped justice that worksat the Al Jazeera channel.
Earlier, the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center released a report in which they stated that journalists and employees who worked for Al Jazeera and violated Egyptian law will be questioned.
“The Egyptian state is a ‘state of law,’ and anyone who proves to have violated its regulations while working for the Qatari channel will be legally questioned,” the statement read, adding that any Al Jazeera employee who did not violate the law “will not be questioned for any reason.”
The report added that the government is working on two different tracks regarding the Qatari crisis and its affiliated media outlets. The first track is coordinating with “objective media platforms” that clarify the truth and defend the country. The second is to work closely with Arab states to close Al Jazeera; one of the demands Arab countries have made of Qatar after severing ties with the Gulf state.
