In a news statement issued on Tuesday (October 3, 2017), Senior Adviser to the Grand Mufti of Egypt and Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, Dr. Ibrahim Negm, confirmed that President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi’s sponsorship of Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta international conference reflects his Excellency’s commitment to supporting any event that resolves societal issues on all levels. In addition, it reflects his response to specific religious issues that contribute to stabilizing society and achieving prosperity.
“The main theme of the conference this year is the role of fatwa in stabilizing society and achieving prosperity,” Dr. Negm stated.
He added that the conference will manifest how contemporary fatwa issuance can correct and refine current reality, explore the mechanisms of issuing scholarly-based fatwas, the relevance of fatwa to political, economic and social life and how modern sciences can benefit and serve the craft of fatwa issuance.
The Secretary-General pointed out that the conference aims at clarifying the relationship between politics and fatwa especially since fatwa has been thrust into the political domain.
Dr. Negm concluded that the conference tries to present innovative solutions to address the debate on institutionalizing and regulating fatwa issuance.
Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta is hosting the conference through the General-Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide from October 17-19, 2017. Delegations from 50 countries will attend the event.
