On Sunday, November 19, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi celebrates his 63rd birthday, he is the sixth and current president of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
Al-Sisi was born on November 19, 1954, in the Gamaliya district of Cairo. His military career began in 1970, after joining the Air forces High School, graduating from the Military College in 1977, obtaining a bachelor’s degree, and master’s degree from the College of Command and Staff in 1987 and a master’s degree from the College of Command and Staff in 1992.
Al-Sisi was a Fellow of the Supreme War College from Nasser Military Academy in 2003 and a fellow of the US Supreme War College in 2006.
He appeared on the political scene when he was the youngest member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces before he was elected to office in March 2011.
On 12 August 2012, he was appointed as Minister of Defense and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, replacing Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, then Head of Military Intelligence and Reconnaissance.
On January 27, 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Marshal, by a decision of President Adli Mansour, which was preceded by a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces in which he announced that he approves the “popular mandate” of the Defense Minister Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to run for president.
On March 26, 2014, he officially announced his resignation and candidacy for the presidential elections after a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, attended by President Adli Mansour.
After that, he won the presidential election with overwhelming popular support. This was followed by a number of achievements, initiated by the President with the inauguration of the new Suez Canal, aimed at increasing the revenues and capabilities of the competitive Suez Canal. The project started in August 2014 and opened in August 2015.
Al-Sisi also worked on the national road project, the 1.5 million acres project, the one million housing units project, the new administrative capital, the national electricity project and the development of slums.
