The US embassy in Cairo denied reports about its contacts with US citizens in Egypt and warned them of being in some commercial centers in the capital.
The embassy confirmed through its account on Twitter, that it did not issue this message at all, stressing that any security message issued to its citizens in Egypt are listed on its website.
Over the past few hours, there have been reports of the US Embassy’s warning to US citizens in Egypt about being in or near commercial centers in Cairo for possible terrorist attacks.
The message, which was confirmed to be incorrect, came on the sidelines of the visit of the Russian and Palestinian presidents, Putin and Abu Mazen, to Egypt and their meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The U.S. Embassy in Cairo is aware of a fake security message attributed to the embassy, circulating over the past 24 hours. This security message did NOT come from the U.S. Embassy. (1/2)
