New Zealand pop singer “Lorde” is considering canceling her concert in the occupied territories after she faced many pressures from her audience, who asked her not to go in solidarity with the Palestinian people who face the Israeli occupation.
These pressures began last Thursday through the “Lorde” personal account on Twitter, after the fans asked her to cancel the concert scheduled for June 5, in protest against the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
“She takes the advice on the complexities of the political situation very seriously and thinks about all the options,” she said. “Thank you for educating me. I’m learning all the time too.”
Nadia Abu Shanab and Justin Saki sent a message to the young singer asking her to cancel the concert and said in the speech: “Dear Lorde, we are two girls live in the town of Aotearoa, one Jewish and the other Palestinian, we send to tell you there are millions of people are opposed to the policies of repression, ethnic cleansing, human rights violations, occupation and apartheid by the Israeli government.
“As part of this struggle, we believe that economic, intellectual and artistic boycott is an effective way of rejecting these crimes” the two girls added.
“We can play an important role in challenging injustice today. We urge you to act in the spirit of progressive New Zealanders who came before you and continue their legacy.”
